The Venezuelan government announced today the resumption of diplomatic and consular relations with the United States. Through an official communiqué, it informed that the measure takes place after a sustained dialogue process between both parties, in which they agreed to resume institutional ties and advance towards a new stage of bilateral cooperation. The Venezuelan Executive, led by Delcy Rodríguez, indicated that this process will be guided by the principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality of States, and cooperation among peoples. In the document, the government expressed its willingness to promote a 'constructive dialogue' that allows strengthening understanding between both countries and generating opportunities for a positive relationship. According to what Noticias Argentinas agency learned, the resumption of diplomatic relations seeks to expand the spaces for a bilateral cooperation that will result in benefits for both countries.
Caracas also pointed out that this step is part of the political dialogue processes that different sectors of the country maintain to strengthen coexistence, peace, and national understanding. The announcement comes after several years of rupture between Caracas and Washington, which ceased their relations in January 2019, withdrawing diplomatic personnel in both nations that same year.
