At the recent annual BRICS meeting, the presence of Nicolás Maduro, the president of Venezuela, caught the attention of internet users due to the peculiar situation that arose. Although Bolivia was considered as a new member, Venezuela, despite not being an official part of the group, was present at the meeting.
The BRICS, composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is a group that brings together five emerging economies. Over the years, BRICS has not included Latin American countries, mainly due to economic differences and the close relationships these countries maintain with the United States.
During the meeting, attended by leaders such as Vladimir Putin, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Narendra Modi, Xi Jinping, and Cyril Ramaphosa, Maduro's presence as a representative of Venezuela was highlighted. Putin expressed his support for Venezuela's aspiration to join BRICS, emphasizing the importance of its presence at the gathering.
Despite his participation in the sessions and discussions, Maduro was not included in the official photo of the BRICS leaders, which generated comments on social media. Maduro's absence from the main photo caught the attention of internet users, while countries like Bolivia were officially added as new members of the group.
It is important to note that Venezuela attended the meeting as a guest, without being an official member of BRICS. Despite these observations, Maduro's participation in the gathering has generated various interpretations, mainly in the international arena.
