Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado called on citizens this Holy Saturday to continue advancing together in the «rebirth» of the South American country in freedom. She indicated that the suffering has not been in vain because they are close to «the return to life».

«We have suffered and lost a lot, but our pain today transforms into hope because we understand that our suffering has not been in vain and that we are close to the return to life,» said the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate in a post on X.

Machado pointed out that this Holy Saturday is the opportunity to renew faith and connect with the profound meaning that every sacrifice made out of love has.

«Seeing Jesus on the cross, we know that the light of the resurrection is very close,» she added.

The former deputy stated that the cross that Venezuela carries weighs on the shoulders of every family that has mourned the departure of a son, of every persecuted, imprisoned, and defamed person, of every neighbor who has resisted in extreme precariousness, as well as of every young person determined to live with dignity.

Furthermore, she maintained that from this resistance, strength also arises among Venezuelans.

«We will always continue to hold on to the faith and love that unite us in a supportive community and that shape the soul of this great nation,» she pointed out.

On Tuesday, Machado held a new meeting in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a meeting that she described as «excellent».

In a message sent to the press, the opposition leader's communications team assured that Machado reaffirmed to Rubio that the Venezuelan population wants to live in democracy and under the rule of law, and reiterated that «the day of her return» «will be very soon».

The meeting took place after the United States officially resumed operations at its Embassy in Caracas on Monday, following the Trump Administration and the government of Venezuelan interim president Delcy Rodríguez re-establishing diplomatic relations between both countries, broken since 2019.

Since the capture of Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces on January 3 in Caracas, the Trump Administration and the Rodríguez government have moved closer together and formally re-established diplomatic relations between both countries in early March.

Trump has for now ruled out Machado to lead the South American country and instead recognized Delcy Rodríguez as head of state.
