Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo has started a hunger strike to protest his detention. This information came from El Rodeo 1 prison in Caracas, where he has been held hostage since the end of 2024, without legal or consular assistance. This was confirmed on Wednesday by Elisa Trotta, a former ambassador of Venezuela's interim government led by Juan Guaidó. She explained that the news about Gallo emerged after relatives of detainees managed to shout from the mountains to political prisoners in the torture center Rodeo 1. The prisoners reported that Nahuel Gallo continues his hunger strike. His wife, María Alexandra Gómez, said that her «soul returned to her body» after receiving a call from her husband, who has been detained in Venezuela for over a year and a half. «After 445 days, my soul returned to my body. Nahuel called, Nahuel called to tell me that he was strong. That we needed to be strong,» Gómez wrote in a message posted on social media X. She added: «We want him FREE, he needs to be with his family. What happens to him is the responsibility of the regime of Delcy Rodríguez,» explained Trotta, a lawyer, diplomat, and human rights activist.
