Gustavo Gabriel Rivara, an Argentine citizen who was detained since 2024 in the "El Helicoide" prison in Caracas, stated that in that place, "all innocent people are imprisoned, without a judicial process," and described the prison conditions as so severe that "one person per year commits suicide." Rivara was detained in Caracas since 2024 without formal charges or a public judicial process. His case, along with that of the other two detained Argentines, Nahuel Gallo and Germán Giuliani, was considered arbitrary detention by the Argentine government. In an interview with Radio Rivadavia, Rivara explained that "El Helicoide" is a "dirty and dilapidated place" where guards "don't let you sleep properly, because they do roll calls and wake you up very early, they keep you alert all the time." "There are young people, 27 years old or younger, YouTubers, who have done absolutely nothing and are in prison only because the regime fears them, and they disappear you just because you have money and they try to blackmail you," Rivara asserted. He assured that he was detained "only for being Argentine," and emphasized that the government then headed by Nicolás Maduro—now detained in the United States—and now by Delcy Rodríguez, "does not need reasons to detain people," and specified that he was arrested "at a bus station." "All foreigners that the police pick up are presented to SEBIN (Bolivariano de Informaciones) after being detained and are then used as a bargaining chip for blackmailing other countries and governments. They use foreigners to move their blackmail," he expressed. "They detained me only for being Argentine. I was in a town called Barinas, I was already returning to Colombia. I had entered the country 18 days before, I had only been there for two weeks, a little more."
