Rodríguez rejects Petro's proposal for zero tariffs

Venezuela's interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, rejected this Saturday the proposal of Colombia's president, Gustavo Petro, for a zero tariff on all binational trade due to the inequality that, she said, is generated by the United States sanctions against the Caribbean country. "President Petro, we would like to, but we cannot, because the Venezuelan people are sanctioned, the Venezuelan productive people are sanctioned," said Rodríguez. "We cannot be on equal terms, and we have to accompany our productive country so that, under these conditions of inequality, we can engage in foreign trade that benefits the Venezuelan people," said Rodríguez, who asked U.S. President Donald Trump to definitively lift these measures.
