Venezuela's President Calls for Sanctions to Be Lifted

The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, called on US President Donald Trump to lift the sanctions against her country. In her view, this could accelerate energy integration projects between the two nations, such as gas and electricity exchanges. The measures imposed by the US have been in effect since 2015, although on March 5, both nations announced the restoration of diplomatic ties. Rodríguez, who assumed executive power after the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro on Saturday, January 3, made the request during a meeting between Venezuelan and Colombian government delegates, where key talks on security, energy, and commerce took place. In this regard, the head of state stated: "I take this opportunity to send a message to the American president, Donald Trump."
