The Venezuelan regime carried out the release of opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa on Sunday, after he had been deprived of his liberty for more than eight months. The news was broken by his son, Ramón Guanipa, on social media X, where he expressed the family's relief after a long period of separation. The young man highlighted the emotional impact of the reunion, but maintained a tone of institutional complaint against the authorities in Caracas. Guanipa, one of the most visible figures of the opposition, had been detained in May 2025 following a period of clandestinity, within the framework of a repressive escalation that followed the political events of that July. According to what the Argentine News Agency was able to find out, his detention was internationally denounced as arbitrary and motivated by political objectives. At the moment of regaining his freedom, his family reaffirmed their commitment to the cause of human rights in Venezuela: 'There are still hundreds of Venezuelans unjustly imprisoned. We demand the immediate, full and unconditional release of ALL political prisoners,' his son stated in the official communiqué. This measure comes in a scenario of extreme sensitivity, where the ruling party began to show signs of openness in detentions due to pressure from the international community and the government of the United States. Guanipa's release from detention centers is seen by analysts as a key gesture in negotiations for a possible general amnesty, although the opposition warns that there is still a long way to go to normalize the institutional situation and guarantee the security of all leaders who are behind bars for their political dissent.
