The Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil thanked the Russian government on Thursday for its support in defending Venezuela’s sovereignty and maintaining the region as a zone of peace. He said, "In the name of President Nicolás Maduro, we want to express our sincere gratitude to the Russian Federation for its valuable support in Maduro’s efforts to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty and the interests of the Venezuelan people against the threats and unlawful military actions of the United States administration in the Caribbean." Gil also praised Russia’s backing for preserving the peace zone and the economic, political, and social stability across Latin America and the Caribbean. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zajarova added, "We reaffirm our support for President Maduro’s efforts to protect Venezuela’s sovereignty and national interests and to ensure the country’s stable and secure development."
