The Venezuelan sectoral vice president of Politics, Citizen Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, announced that 71 Venezuelan citizens returned to the South American country this Wednesday, after being detained and deported by U.S. authorities while attempting to transit to the North American nation.

The humanitarian operation was carried out via a flight from the Venezuelan state airline Conviasa, which departed from Honduras (intermediary country), as part of the Great Mission Return to the Homeland, an official program focused on the mass repatriation of vulnerable migrants.

The group consisted of 62 men and 9 women, with no presence of minors. Since February, when a repatriation agreement between Caracas and Washington was reactivated, more than 3,000 nationals have returned to the country. The plan not only includes return but also economic, educational, legal, and social assistance for their reintegration.

According to the authorities, each migrant undergoes protocol interviews, medical checks by the Venezuelan Red Cross, and other health, immigration, and psychological evaluations before their definitive reintegration.
