Political Asylum Request for Villalba Family in Venezuela

In Venezuela, six women and eleven children have arrived after losing their status as political refugees in Argentina. The National Commission for Refugees revoked the previously granted refuge to the Villalba family from Paraguay, which consists of five adult women, one adult man, and twelve minors.

The Villalba family has been politically persecuted by the State of Paraguay for years. Some of its members have been illegally imprisoned, and there have been reports of murder and forced disappearance of minors, including Néstor Oviedo Villalba and the daughters of Myriam and Laura Villalba. The UN has recognized the responsibility of the Paraguayan State in these crimes.

Salvador Sanchez, the legal representative of the family, has confirmed the inhumane conditions in which the members of the Villalba family are held in prison. Despite the complaints and international pressure, the Paraguayan State continues with repressive actions.

From the International Campaign in Solidarity with the Villalba Family, authorities in Venezuela have been requested to expedite the political asylum process for the family, ensuring their safety and fundamental rights. The situation of the imprisoned family members remains critical, with reports of torture and lack of adequate medical attention. The conditions in which they are held are alarming and require urgent intervention to protect their lives and integrity.
