VENEZUELA: VAR Debuts in Sub 20 Final Hexagonal

CONMEBOL has decided to implement the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in the final hexagonal of the South American U-20 Championship, which will take place in the cities of Caracas and Puerto de la Cruz in Venezuela. This will be the first time VAR is used in this youth competition, with the aim of promoting sports justice as one of the fundamental pillars of South American football.

In this crucial stage of the tournament, where 12 key matches will be played, efforts are being made to ensure clear rules and transparency in refereeing decisions. To achieve this, more referees have been summoned to enforce justice and ensure proper conduct of the matches.

The use of technology in this category will begin on Tuesday, February 4th, and the teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay will compete in a round-robin hexagonal to determine the champion of the tournament and the four teams that will qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Chile this year.

"The use of VAR at this stage of the U-20 championship is an important step towards ensuring fairness and transparency in refereeing decisions," stated a representative of CONMEBOL regarding this innovative measure in the youth competition.

The Argentine team, known as the "Albiceleste," will debut in this final phase against Chile on Tuesday at 5 PM (Argentina time). They will then play against Uruguay on Friday at 7:30 PM, against Colombia on Monday, February 10th at the same time, against Brazil on Thursday the 13th at 10 PM, and will conclude their participation in this stage against Paraguay on Sunday the 16th, with the time yet to be confirmed.
