The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, affirmed this Saturday, upon returning to the country after participating in the BRICS summit in Russia, that Venezuela will not be vetoed or silenced by any country, in reference to the veto imposed by Brazil on Venezuela's entry into the group of emerging economies.
In statements to the state channel VTV, Maduro declared: "There is no force on this earth that can silence the voice of rebellion and justice of Venezuela, neither today nor tomorrow nor ever, no one will veto or silence Venezuela and whoever tries will wither away." The president praised Venezuela's participation in the summit, describing it as "stellar, exemplary, beautiful."
On Friday, Brazilian sources reported that Maduro attempted to late-pressure for Venezuela to be included in the list of countries associated with BRICS, which provoked a negative and emphatic reaction from Brazil, which rejected Venezuela's inclusion based on current relations.
Relations between Caracas and Brasilia have deteriorated since the Venezuelan presidential elections, which Brazil did not recognize and demanded the release of the electoral records. Venezuela, for its part, has labeled the veto as a hostile gesture and an aggression to its interests, reproducing hatred and exclusion from the centers of Western power.
