The secretary general of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, assured this Monday that the country is "calm" and "at peace", two weeks after the U.S. military attack on Caracas and three other regions that concluded with the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. "This people is calm, at peace, because the Bolivarian revolution is here, otherwise it would not be so," said the also Minister of Interior and Justice at the weekly press conference of the chavist formation. Cabello highlighted that after the U.S. attack there were no demonstrations supporting this action in the Caribbean country, while stating that the chavist government remains working in the political, economic, and social spheres. "We will continue in the streets alongside the people in our daily struggle, the wicked sons of this homeland will never impose evil in Venezuela, never, they have no possibility of doing so," he added. Cabello stated that aggressions against the country will be faced through diplomacy. Since the capture of the Venezuelan president and his wife, chavism has called for demonstrations demanding their release and has promised not to rest until they are brought back to Venezuela. Protesters have also backed Delcy Rodríguez as interim president, a position she assumed on January 5 after being appointed by the Supreme Court of Justice. Rodríguez initiated an "exploratory" process to resume relations with the United States, and on Thursday she met in Caracas with the CIA director, John Ratcliffe, with whom she discussed security issues in an effort to bridge gaps, sources from the intelligence agency confirmed to EFE. The Venezuelan interim government, which Donald Trump claims is under U.S. tutelage, has agreed to send millions of barrels of crude oil to the U.S.
