Chavista deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of President Nicolás Maduro, affirmed this Friday that Venezuela must have relations and an Embassy in the United States, two weeks after his father's capture during a U.S. military attack in Caracas. «Venezuela has to have relations with the whole world (...) I think we should have relations with the United States, an embassy, just like with China, just like with Russia, because it is our self-determination,» declared Maduro Guerra at an Encounter of the Network of Jurists in Caracas, broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV). In this sense, he indicated that Caracas could have relations with other countries with opposing ideas, such as, he said, Israel and Iran. If there are differences with other countries, he indicated, they should be treated «from the framework of politics». «Venezuela must advance to be a country of peace, with commercial relations with the whole world,» he added. However, during his speech, the deputy repeated on several occasions that, in his opinion, international law is «agonizing» after his father's and the First Lady Cilia Flores' capture, whom he considers as «kidnapping.» Likewise, the parliamentarian stressed the need to preserve the country's peace «to maintain internal order,» thus ensuring that Venezuela must «continue to advance» because, he reiterated, that is his father's desire. «What is happening in Venezuela is Nicolás Maduro's plan, with Nicolás Maduro's team, with Nicolás Maduro Moros's objectives and his work team,» he declared. Delcy Rodríguez, who serves as the acting president of Venezuela, initiated an «exploratory» process to resume U.S. relations, and this Thursday she met in Caracas with the CIA director, John Ratcliffe, with whom she addressed security issues in an effort to bring positions closer, sources from the intelligence agency confirmed to EFE. The Venezuelan interim government, which Trump assures is under U.S. tutelage, has agreed to send millions of barrels of crude to the U.S. for its commercialization and has opened the oil industry to foreign investment with the impulse of the Republican administration.
