Thousands of Venezuelans Rally in Caracas for Maduro's Release

Thousands of Venezuelans, called upon by social movements, took to the streets of Caracas today to demand the release of former President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, who were captured by U.S. forces. This was the sixth day of mobilization following last Saturday's bombing of the South American nation, which resulted in the detention of Maduro and his wife, who were transferred to a prison in New York. In this regard, the Minister of Education and Sectoral Vice President for Socialism and Territorial, Héctor Rodríguez, assured that only Chavism has the leadership «to guarantee the existence of the Republic, to guarantee peace, to guarantee sovereignty, and to rescue comrade Nicolás and comrade Cilia». Likewise, and as learned by the Argentine News agency, he assured that the government team will comply with all instructions entrusted by Maduro and, in this sense, called for unity and national mobilization. «We are going to a great process of mobilization and agitation,» he stated before pointing out that it is a task that the country's movements and organizations have. He also asked to redouble the effort to maintain the unity of all Venezuelans and the rescue of the president and the first lady. Meanwhile, the son of the Venezuelan leader, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, thanked the people for their support and called for unity and confidence in the government to guarantee the liberation of his parents.
