The Venezuelan Interior Minister, Diosdado Cabello, accused the anti-Chavista leader María Corina Machado on Friday of being responsible for the proposal made by the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, related to the exchange of 252 detained migrants in El Salvador for an equivalent number of 'political prisoners' in Venezuela.
According to Cabello, Machado would be behind the controversial suggestion made by Bukele. This proposal has generated intense debate in the South American country, as it implies a prisoner exchange that has been strongly criticized by the Venezuelan opposition and various sectors of society.
In this context, the Venezuelan government has firmly rejected the idea proposed by the Salvadoran president, emphasizing that they are not willing to accept any negotiation of this kind.
For her part, María Corina Machado has not publicly responded to Cabello's accusations nor has she commented on her alleged connection to the prisoner exchange proposal.
