Venezuela and US Agree on Migrant Repatriation

The governments of Venezuela and the United States agreed today, Thursday, on the repatriation of Venezuelan migrants from U.S. territory under the Plan Vuelta a la Patria. Caracas, through a statement, detailed that the agreement was reached with special envoy Richard Grenell "to repatriate Venezuelan brothers and sisters who are in the United States." This commitment is framed in the defense of Human Rights and the safeguarding of family reunification.

"We reaffirm that we will take care of our compatriots wherever they are and we rejoice in the happiness that comes to Venezuelan homes when we see their sons and daughters return home, to their homeland," expressed the government in the statement, which was signed by Jorge Rodríguez, appointed for Venezuela's peace dialogues.

During a previous announcement, President Nicolás Maduro reported that the repatriation flights for Venezuelan migrants were affected by the suspension of the license to Chevron by his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump. The Plan Vuelta a la Patria was established in 2018 with the aim of managing and facilitating the return of Venezuelans in vulnerable situations.
