Mariana González, daughter of Edmundo González Urrutia, leader of the largest opposition coalition in Venezuela, expressed her desperation over not having information about the whereabouts of her husband, Rafael Tudares, who, according to her testimony, was arbitrarily detained 40 days ago. This complaint was made in a message shared on social media.
Last week, González Urrutia, who is contesting the Venezuelan presidency considering that the victory was fraudulently granted to Nicolás Maduro in the July 2024 elections, highlighted that Maduro's administration is intensifying repression. In his exile since September of last year, González Urrutia pointed out that his family is a victim of the political persecution affecting thousands of Venezuelans seeking a free country.
The Human Rights Committee of Vente Venezuela, led by opposition member María Corina Machado, reports that 183 political leaders and activists are currently detained, many of whom are collaborators or close to González Urrutia. Most of these arrests occurred in the context of the post-electoral crisis in Venezuela.
Regarding the specific situation of Rafael Tudares, Mariana González expressed her concern over the lack of information about his health, whereabouts, and current condition since the day of his arrest, where he was detained in front of their two children. In addition to calling for her husband's release, González shared that the children have had dreams about their father and long to be together as a family.
