Opponents at Argentine Embassy in Caracas in Crisis

The opposition group "Hoy Comando Venezuela" has reported that the asylum seekers in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas are in an "alarming situation". This group of anti-Chavismo opponents, led by Nicolás Maduro, entered the building on March 20, 2024.

According to the report from Hoy Comando Venezuela, the asylum seekers in the embassy suffer harassment and intimidation from Nicolás Maduro's regime. Police mistreatment has intensified since November 23, when the building was surrounded.

In a statement, the group demanded a prompt solution to the situation and requested Maduro to grant the necessary safe-conducts so that opposition leaders can leave the country as soon as possible. They highlighted that for 83 days, the asylum seekers have been without electrical service in the embassy and rely on an emergency generator.

The statement emphasized that the use of the generator is being rationed to ensure minimal connectivity, given the lack of electrical service. Additionally, the asylum seekers do not have access to water, medication, or food, which can only enter the embassy through third parties.
