President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said on Monday that the export of food will be 'the new source of national wealth for foreign currency,' a statement made amid tensions over the U.S. military deployment in the Caribbean and the recent confiscation of two ships loaded with Venezuelan crude. The president stated that Venezuela will become 'a great power in food exporting,' during a visit to an agro-productive commune in Caracas, broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV). 'We have to start producing pure food, free of chemicals that make us sick, and 100% organic because, in addition, the world is demanding organic food,' said the Chavista leader. In this sense, he highlighted the work of communal organizations in food production in conucos (gardens) and stated that the South American country is prepared to become a great power.
