Release of Six American Detainees in Venezuela

The authorities of Venezuela have released six American citizens after a meeting in Caracas between President Nicolás Maduro and a special envoy from the United States, Donald Trump.

"I have just been informed that we are bringing home six hostages from Venezuela," Trump said. For his part, the American envoy, Richard Grenell, stated: "We are on our way and heading home with these six American citizens." In a photograph, they are all seen on a plane, although their identities have not been revealed.

Before this meeting, the NGO Foro Penal had reported that there were eight American citizens, including a military member, and two people of other nationalities residing in the United States, who were imprisoned in Venezuela under accusations of conspiring against Maduro and planning acts of violence.

During the meeting with Grenell, Maduro called for a "new beginning" in relations between Venezuela and the United States, which had been broken since 2019, with the aim of correcting what is necessary and moving forward for the benefit of both nations.
