Venezuela: Four Argentine Documentary Filmmakers Detained

The Argentine Documentary Filmmakers Association (DOCA) has condemned the arbitrary detention of four Argentine documentary filmmakers. On Friday, October 31, 2025, Noel Cisneros, Katiuska Castillo Vásquez, Ingrid Briceño Venegas, and Marcela Hernández Guerra were detained by Venezuelan authorities while pre-producing a short film near the Tocorón prison center in Aragua state, Venezuela. The filmmakers were approached by authorities and detained shortly after taking a photo of the prison facade around 11:00 AM. Since then, they have been out of communication, and their whereabouts are unknown. According to press reports, their relatives lost contact with them at 3:45 PM and learned that they had been taken away in patrols of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service. DOCA stated that it firmly repudiates the disappearance of the four filmmakers and demands that the Venezuelan government provide an immediate response to this grave situation and urgently release the detainees. They have also launched an online petition calling on the Venezuelan and international cinematographic community to sign in solidarity and demand their freedom.
