Venezuela and the United States reaffirmed on Wednesday their willingness to advance in the 'strategic development' of their resources, said the South American country's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, who met in Caracas with US Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum. 'We reaffirm our willingness to advance in a cooperation based on mutual respect and on the strategic development of our resources for the benefit of both peoples,' she expressed on social networks. The Chavista leader, who assumed the position two months ago after the capture of Nicolás Maduro by the US, said she received Burgum at Miraflores - seat of the Venezuelan Executive - 'as part of the dialogue' between both countries, which have resumed their diplomatic ties, broken in 2019. The meeting with the US delegation, also headed by the president of the National Council on Energy Domain, was 'aimed at strengthening the bilateral exchange in energy and mining matters,' added Rodríguez. After the meeting, both offered statements to the press, in which the acting head of state said that her economic team will present 'in the coming days' to the Parliament, controlled by Chavism, an 'expansion of the Mining Law' that she requested be reformed 'with promptness,' in order to present to the world 'the opportunities for investment and development.' Her brother and President of the Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, reiterated on Wednesday that the Legislative Power is 'working on strengthening the Venezuelan legal apparatus' and that, in that sense, a reform of the Mining Law will be debated 'so that sustainable exploitation allows national and foreign investment.' From Miraflores, Burgum affirmed that the 'opportunities that exist for a collaboration and a synergy' between both countries 'have no limits.' He indicated that 'about two dozen of the largest, strongest, best in the world companies in minerals and mining' accompany him on his two-day visit, and that 'many of these' already worked in Venezuela at some point. This same Wednesday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, again highlighted that Rodríguez 'is doing an excellent job' and collaborating 'very well' with his country, in a social media message to which the acting president responded by thanking the Republican leader for his 'kind disposition' for joint work.
