Deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra, son of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, reiterated on Tuesday his support for the 'high political command' led by Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, who assumed executive functions after the capture of the Chavista leader by U.S. forces. 'We are sending from La Guaira all our support to the high political command, to the team that Nicolás Maduro Moros left here, to compañera Delcy Rodríguez, acting president, Diosdado Cabello, Jorge Rodríguez,' declared the parliamentarian on the state television channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), after participating in a march in that state, one of the three affected during the U.S. military attacks. The demonstration, he said, began at dusk and aimed to demand the 'freedom' of the ruler and his wife, Deputy Cilia Flores, who are imprisoned in New York. In this regard, Maduro Guerra assured that during the march there was a 'spirit of great unity' and 'great awareness,' and called on Chavism to 'be up to' the task. 'They will see us in the streets at the forefront, leading the fight for dignity,' he added. On January 3, U.S. troops carried out attacks in Caracas and three other Venezuelan states, including La Guaira, in which they captured Maduro and Flores, who were transferred to New York and presented to a federal court. Two days later, Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as acting president before the National Assembly (AN, Parliament), which is presided over by her brother, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez. Since then, the acting president has made several changes to the ministerial cabinet and announced appointments in various entities, while being accompanied by her brother and the Minister of Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, at various public events. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López reported that 47 members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) died during the military operation, a figure that adds to 32 deceased Cuban military personnel, according to the island's government. The Venezuelan Executive promoted and decorated the fallen military in a ceremony in Caracas led by the acting president alongside the Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez. Chavismo has taken to the streets of Caracas to protest daily since the detention of Maduro and Flores, which they denounce as a 'kidnapping,' and have demanded their freedom and return to Venezuela.
